What is a Smart URL QR Code

  • Automatic smart redirects
Send each visitor to a different link based on country, city, language, time or scan count.
  • Perfect for localization
Serve localized pages for international audiences without creating multiple QR codes.
  • Ideal for testing
Run A/B tests, multi-step funnels and time-based campaigns from a single QR code.

How Smart URL works

A Smart URL QR Code automatically redirects people to different destinations based on rules you define. When someone scans your QR code, ZodQR detects their country, city, language, scan number, and the current time and day.

ZodQR then checks your Smart URL rules in priority order and sends the visitor to the correct link. If no rule matches, the user is redirected to your default fallback URL.

How to create a Smart URL QR Code

1

Open Smart URL creator

From your Dashboard, click "Create QR code" on the sidebar or press "Q" on your keyboard.

2

Choose Smart URL type

Select "Smart URL" from the dynamic QR code types list.

3

Select redirect condition

Pick one condition for your QR code: Country, City, Scan times, Time of day, or Day of week.

4

Set default and rules

Enter the default fallback URL, then add one or more redirect rules for your chosen condition.

5

Configure and style

Configure password, schedule, scan limits, custom back-half, folder and (if Pro) custom domain. Then style your QR code design.

6

Create and share

Click "Create QR" and then share or print your Smart URL QR code. You can edit rules anytime without reprinting.

Smart Redirect Rule Types

Country-based redirect

Send users from specific countries to different localized links.

  • Vietnam → https://example.com/vi
  • USA → https://example.com/en

City-based redirect

Perfect for local events, city-specific promotions and in-store campaigns.

  • Ho Chi Minh City → local event page
  • Hanoi → different promotion page

Language-based redirect

Detect the device or browser language and redirect to the matching content.

  • en → English page
  • vi → Vietnamese page
  • ja → Japanese page

Scan count redirect

Change the destination based on how many times the QR has been scanned.

  • Scan #1 → Promotion A
  • Scan #2 → Promotion B
  • Scan #3+ → Default URL

Time of day redirect

Send visitors to different pages depending on the current hour.

  • 08:00–17:00 → Business hours page
  • 17:00–23:00 → Evening promotion
  • 23:00–08:00 → After-hours notice

Day of week redirect

Run weekday vs weekend campaigns from the same Smart URL QR code.

  • Mon–Fri → Workday landing page
  • Sat–Sun → Weekend campaign
  • Friday → Weekly deal page

Default fallback URL

If no rule matches, visitors are always sent to your default fallback URL so no scan is wasted.

Manage and edit your Smart URL QR Code

Smart URL QRs are fully editable. From your dashboard, you can:

  • Modify redirect rules at any time
  • Add or remove rules without reprinting QR codes
  • Change the default fallback URL
  • Pause or disable the QR code temporarily

Never Reprint

Because the QR code always contains the same short URL, and only the redirect rules change on the server, you never need to reprint your Smart URL QR code when you update destinations.
